Pg.49 “Goodbyes”
Odin came to me the morning Emily and I prepared to leave..
There are things you must know, many things, too many to say now girl. Have you seen Glorian? Don’t look at me like that. I will continue to call him by his child name as long as he continues to play the child. You are a fine strong Queen, you have corrected his mistakes. He should have been the one. He yelled, the floor shaking from the power of his voice.
He sat down and his wine splashed from his mug onto the table. He sat back and closed his eyes. He seemed tired, I had never seen him look so.
I don’t know what he will do if he finds you gone again. You can not delay your return home, here, this is your home. I created that world for you. I created playmates for you. All for you. They are monsters all, destroying and killing. I failed in that, not my only failure, not my biggest. You can not stay there, and you can not leave the doors open. They are all open now, when you passed through it happened. I hadn’t expected that. There are those who would pass through. Do you understand me girl?
Of course I didn’t, but I nodded my head. He let out a loud burst of laughter.
Liar. Do you remember when we would sit and I would tell you stories? I’m sorry and I’m sorry you were not here with your Mama in the end.
Never had I heard Odin apologize for anything, I was shocked! I didn’t know where he was trying to go with all of this, but I did know I couldn’t stay here any longer. I had to come up with some kind of closure to Cass’s life.
Let them believe you dead.
How I hated when he would do that!
Go then girl, but hurry back as if hell were on your heels. It is ya’ know. Hurry and I will try to maintain all you have just worked to restore.
With that he got up and left. I went around and gave my love and goodbyes to Mother, Father, and Ash. Then Emily and I set out to the field to return to Cassidy’s world. We could have left from anywhere, all I needed was a door, an actual door to open and walk through. Anything really, it doesn’t have to be a door, anything you can pass through, an archway, anything. As we walked my heart grew heavy, my feet grew heavier and I knew that I couldn’t leave without seeing Raven. And in that moment I knew where he was.
He sat in front of the fire. His back was to me, I watched the way the silk of his shirt swam across his back as he breathed. His hair was braided and tied with a piece of twine. He sat on the floor, legs crossed in front of him. I stood in the doorway. Too many ghost here, I did not want to go inside. I could not. Wolfric Cottage, my last home here, the home of my tiny smiling boy. I tried to make my body move, I could not. Em waited for me on the road, I watched her pace. I took one last look at Raven and turn and fled. I opened a door through from the garden gate and Em and I returned to Cass’s world.
