Pg.72 “Duties”
Let me start this by telling you a few important things, things that have taken us years to perfect and learn. To begin, ruling is work, constant and tiring! There I’ve said it, and I feel better for it. Most things are very different for us and our people. For instance while our months carry the same names, ours vary from twenty to forty days. Our seasons have the same names but ours run differently. Our Spring is two months, Summer is five, Fall is three months and Winter is two. Maybe because of our difference in time, I do not know, but here a woman only carries a child six to seven months.
We have strict laws and rules that differ as well. No one may marry or divorce without direct approval from the Queen. Few things are punishable by imprisonment, most by labor, others by death. Our currency is very different in fact to complicated to go into, but bartering is done more often than not. All must swear fealty to the Queen and King, traitors are executed. Most disputes are handled by the Queen and King. No one can own land without the approval of the Queen.
One of our strictest and most important is that no one can perform magic without a license! These are all things that was decreed in the start of our rule, many more came about through time and we will discuss those as need. And so that is how we spent most of our first ruling days, writing and then declaring laws. Along with that came more appointments to be handed out, and Nobility to be returned. We also designed and had builders began a retreat home for us, Draco Hall.
A week after our coronation, Hamish and Emily came to us for permission to wed which we gladly granted. The wedding would take place in June as would be custom for all Royal Weddings and they would remain on here at the castle.
By the time the second week arrived, I was worn to the bone. I had not seen the children other than a few seconds each day, while Raven and I had not been alone other than to fall exhaustedly into bed each night. I was growing grumpy, huge with child and tired. I was not prepared for what happened next!
